@bwilson85tech @dhinchcliffe A..the PMO isn't the only part of IT involved. An IT org unit supports that biz unit; they're involved from Day 1. They probably brought the project up in the first place. B...after "hypercare," that IT unit adds this new thing to their backlog. #CIOchat

@dhinchcliffe #CIOChat A2 - Can the AI negotiate with a developer who is overscheduled as to what thing to do next? Probably yes when AI is the developer but until then... There are many human pieces to projects not the least of which is value creation as Joanne mentions and change management.

@dhinchcliffe @PMInstitute #CIOChat A1 - Agile as the permission to change whatever you want whenever you want in a project has not been successful. It can also be a bit shortsighted for portfolio level dependencies. A good PMO is the execution hub in my experience.

@dhinchcliffe @joannefriedman If an org has no clue how to deploy tech to improve business outcomes (distressingly common), a PMO should expand to fill the role of product owners/value maximizers. This can create org tension, but you may not have time to train/upgrade biz units. #CIOchat

@waynesadin Exactly. In IT today, I believe there should be a graceful transition from project management to product management over time for many key systems. #CIOChat

A4) Projects spin up/down to accomplish specific work (in theory ;-), so product lifecycles may span many projects over time. Two different As on the chart. PMs/PMO ought to be at least represented in an EA function since they have insights beyond the why/what. #CIOChat
