For the 4th time this year, the IWD Meanjin Brisbane activists took it to AHPRA today. As Australia's national regulator of health practitioners it is not appropriate for AHPRA to replace its registration function with ideological control of health professionals. AHPRA has overstepped its role. A recent example of AHPRA attempting to censor a doctor's medical opinion centres on the case of Dr Jereth Kok who posted on social media his concerns about gender medicine. Dr Kok was suspended for 7+ years. He lost his livelihood. According to AHPRA's chief executive Justin Untersteiner, AHPRA relies on "existing clinical guidelines" when it makes a case against a health practitioner. When asked by Bernard Lane from GCN however, Mt Untersteiner was unable to cite the Guideline breached by Dr Kok. It's time for AHPRA to be reviewed, disbanded and rebuilt. At today's protest we were abused by 2 pedestrians, but we had good conversations with 12 + people who congratulated us for making a stand. A very worthwhile action. We sometimes say activism is an antidote for despair about the Australian Govt's refusal to restore women's rights by fixing the Sex Discrimination Act. It is.
