🔹 The Bottleneck: Magic states are needed for universal quantum computing, and each one can be used only once. Google says some estimates put up to 95% of a machine's capacity into producing them, a problem first identified in 2004. ⚛️
🔹 The Fidelity: The team reports T states with 99.99% logical fidelity, written 0.9999(1) in the arXiv abstract. The method works as a filter: a noisy state is injected, and attempts that fail error checks are discarded. 🎯
🔹 The Catch: The arXiv abstract reports that 8% of attempts were retained. A 54-qubit test moving a state from a distance-3 color code to a distance-5 surface code ran about seven times above simulation, reportedly from leakage. ⚠️
