I designed a conceptual 24-rack, 120 kW enterprise data center, taking it from a 2D floorplan to a 3D infrastructure model. Here's the thinking behind the architecture. 🧵 t.co/P3OiSPTvFQ

Zoning: Three functional areas: People (lobby, security, NOC), IT (data hall, network room) and Plant (electrical, mechanical, battery). Separate access routes simplify maintenance and reduce security exposure.
Data hall: 3 rows of 8 racks with hot aisle containment. Rack fronts face cold aisles; rear exhaust enters contained hot aisles. Separating supply and return airflow reduces recirculation and improves thermal management. t.co/NCYByahITK

Networking: Dedicated network racks at the end of each row. This provides structured distribution, shorter cable pathways and separates network equipment from server cabinets.
Redundancy: The design explores N+1 UPS and cooling capacity, with separate A/B power paths to dual-corded racks. Actual fault tolerance depends on the complete distribution architecture and failure-mode analysis.
Scalability: The layout reserves space for 16 additional racks and considers future 2N UPS expansion. Infrastructure capacity, electrical distribution and cooling must scale together.
The design draws on ANSI/TIA-942, ASHRAE thermal guidelines and @UptimeInstitute Tier concepts. This is a conceptual portfolio project, not a built or certified facility. All ratings are illustrative. Data center engineers: what would you improve? #DataCenter #AIInfrastructure
